JX Advanced Metals Corporation (President: Hayashi Yoichi; hereinafter "the Company") hereby announces that TANIOBIS GmbH (CEO: Ishii Masafumi; "TANIOBIS"), an affiliate of the Company, has decided to make an investment to expand facilities for the production of functional tantalum powder at its Map Ta Phut plant in Thailand, thereby significantly increasing its production capacity. The expanded facilities are scheduled to commence operation sequentially from the first half of 2027.

　

Functional tantalum powder is used in sputtering targets and capacitors. Tantalum sputtering targets are used as materials to form barrier layers that maintain the reliability of fine copper wiring, and are indispensable components supporting the higher integration and enhanced performance of advanced semiconductors. Tantalum capacitors, while compact, offer high reliability and stable power supply characteristics, and therefore play an important role in power circuits for high-performance semiconductors used in AI and data centers. Both applications are essential for rapidly growing generative AI data centers, and demand for functional tantalum powder has been steadily increasing and is expected to continue to grow going forward.

　

In March 2022, TANIOBIS announced a policy of gradually increasing production capacity for the product at the plant. Under this policy, the plant has been expanding facilities in bottleneck processes. In order to address further growth in demand for functional tantalum powder for both sputtering targets and capacitors, TANIOBIS has now decided to expand facilities in upstream the most process. Through this series of expansions, production capacity at the plant will increase by approximately 1.5 times compared to March 2022.
