JX Advanced Metals Corporation

Investment in Recycling Equipment for Semiconductor Sputtering Targets

JX Advanced Metals Corporation (President: Hayashi Yoichi; hereinafter "the Company") has decided to introduce new recycling equipment at the Tatebayashi Plant in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, and the Nasu Plant in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture, both operated by JX Advanced Metals Coil Center Co., Ltd. (President: Uehara Masayoshi). The investment is intended to promote the recycling of sputtering targets used in the formation of interconnects in advanced semiconductors.

The JX Advanced Metals Group's semiconductor sputtering targets are widely used in the manufacture of cutting-edge logic and memory semiconductors that support the advancement of artificial intelligence. The Group supplies sputtering targets made from a wide variety of metals, including copper and tantalum, which are essential for forming the fine interconnects of advanced semiconductors, as well as titanium, tungsten, and cobalt. The Group holds a world-leading market share in each of these product categories.

Demand for semiconductor sputtering targets is growing in line with the expansion of the semiconductor market, and the Group is increasing its production capacity to meet this demand. To respond reliably to growing demand, it is essential to secure a stable supply of the metals used as raw materials for these products. Accordingly, the Group is developing a vertically integrated supply chain encompassing the entire process from raw material procurement through manufacturing. In recent years, the Group has also been working with customers to collect and recycle used sputtering targets.

To further expand these recycling initiatives, the Group will introduce new equipment at the Tatebayashi and Nasu plants for processes such as cutting and cleaning used sputtering targets. Through this investment, the Group will promote the effective use of finite metal resources, reduce environmental impact across the entire supply chain, and further strengthen its system for ensuring stable supply.

Going forward, the Group will continue to promote recycling in collaboration with its customers and further strengthen its vertically integrated supply chain. Through these efforts, the Group will ensure the long-term, stable supply of advanced materials and contribute to the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry.
