Nikko Metals Taiwan Begins Procurement of Wind Power-Derived Renewable Electricity
JX Advanced Metals Corporation (President: Hayashi Yoichi; hereinafter "the Company") announces that Nikko Metals Taiwan Co., Ltd. (General Manager: Yasutake Ryota; hereinafter "Nikko Metals Taiwan"), the Company's operating base in Taiwan, will begin procuring renewable electricity generated by wind power in Taiwan through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)*1 starting in September 2026.
Nikko Metals Taiwan operates a broad range of businesses in Taiwan, where the semiconductor industry continues to drive strong economic growth. These businesses include the manufacture and sale of advanced materials, such as semiconductor sputtering targets, and the collection of recyclable materials. In recent years, efforts to decarbonize the entire semiconductor supply chain have accelerated. Leading semiconductor manufacturers based in Taiwan are working with material suppliers to reduce CO₂ emissions throughout their supply chains.
Under its Decarbonization Vision,*2 the Company is working to reduce CO₂ emissions across the entire supply chain through collaboration with partners. Together with customers who share this vision, the Company aims to help bring about a carbon-neutral society.
Against this backdrop, Nikko Metals Taiwan has been utilizing electricity generated by on-site solar power systems and procuring solar-derived renewable electricity through a PPA model. Renewable electricity therefore accounted for approximately 60% of Nikko Metals Taiwan's total annual electricity consumption in 2025. Because the supply of solar-generated electricity is limited to daytime hours, however, securing renewable electricity during early morning, evening, and nighttime periods has remained a challenge.
As the growth of Taiwan's semiconductor industry continues to increase demand for renewable electricity, Nikko Metals Taiwan has actively gathered market information and engaged in extensive negotiations with various stakeholders. These efforts have resulted in the procurement of electricity derived from wind power. Through this initiative and other measures, estimates indicate that over 80% of the company's total annual electricity consumption will come from renewable electricity by 2027.
The JX Advanced Metals Group's semiconductor sputtering targets, which hold a world-leading market share, are indispensable materials used in the manufacture of leading-edge logic and memory semiconductors that support the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). The Company believes that reducing the carbon footprint of these products, which are essential to technological innovation and social development, will help make the semiconductor industry sustainable.
The Group has thus been expanding the use of renewable electricity not only at the Isohara Works (Kitaibaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan), its principal sputtering target production site, but also at processing sites in South Korea and the United States. Going forward, JX Advanced Metals will further accelerate efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions throughout the entire product lifecycle, including recycling initiatives in collaboration with customers.
Under its Decarbonization Vision, the JX Advanced Metals Group will continue advancing initiatives that simultaneously meet customer needs, address social challenges, and enhance the value of its products. Through these efforts, the Group aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry.
